St.Eustacia to St.Kitts & Nevis
Saturday June 7th 2008
We weighed anchor (I'm gradually learning the correct sailing terminology)at 10:30am and were fortunate once again to be blessed with good weather for our next leg. We enjoyed a smooth, calm sail with moderate 12 - 15 knot winds.
As we approached the island of St.Kitts I was amazed by it's resemblance to a little piece of English countryside, floating there in the middle of the ocean, rich green fields, cows and sheep grazing, cottages dotted up and down the gently sloping hills, it was picturesque.
Coming alongside at Porte Zante, not so calm! A couple of large catamarans were maneuvering around the confined space of the little harbour with little apparent control, intelligently I feel, we decided to hang back giving them plenty of room, while also keeping ourselves well out of harms way.
We were finally able to come alongside where we met our new neighbors Bill and Heidi, and their adorable, friendly little parrot 'Mr Smee'.
Once Daisy was settled we boarded Bill & Heidi's yacht for a couple of beers. A local taxi driver called Juni approached and asked if we would like a tour of the island. We arranged for him to collect us at 9am tomorrow. Later I joined Heidi to explore the town center shops, unfortunately everything other than the supermarket was closed. So we did some grocery shopping and I nearly had a coronary over the prices until Heidi pointed out that they were Caribbean dollars, not American. Pheww...
I was feeling the first symptoms of a cold, so I went to bed early with a mug of hot tea made with ginger, lemon and honey, one of my Mothers medicinal concoctions. Bob and Edi got a Chinese take out from the restaurant right there in the marina.
